Saturnacan.net: A New Look for a New Year

Using a new dynamic front page for Current Events, News, In Depth articles and Classifieds, Saturnacan.net has been re-designed to help people who care about Saturna Island keep up to date with what is happening in the community. The rest of the site provides access to information of interest to residents and visitors, often by linking directly to other Saturna webpages. In that sense saturnacan.net can be a home page for the whole island. The email server will continue to serve those residents who still have saturnacan.net email addresses. The login link to Saturnacan webmail can be found under “Other Links”.

Saturnacan.net was started in the early days of the world wide web, under the Federal Community Access Program, and has been running for over fifteen years as a community website and mail server. It has been administered by volunteers at Saturna’s Eddie Reid Memorial Library for the last 8 years.

In September, 2015 the Saturna Community Club decided to update the site in a free collaboration with the students and staff of Q College in Victoria. Saturnacan.net is now a moderated, information-based website, sponsored by the Saturna Community Club, open to everyone.

We encourage you to add your own Events or Classifieds by using the “Add your own” link at the top of those sections on the home page. The first time you do so, you will be asked to register as a user. After that merely login whenever you wish to add or edit your content. The submitted event or ad will be sent to the moderators and posted as quickly as possible. Please keep the information you have submitted up to date. Classified ads will automatically be removed after 30 days.

We also invite you to send photos and articles for the News or In Depth columns by email. Please help us make this website informative and useful.

Happy New Year!
